Hawaii Vacations - An Overview

You can't beat a Hawaii vacation when it comes to lying on the beach and having fun. This is just the place for a lovely and refreshing break to recharge the batteries ready to face life again.

The Hawaiian climate is great all year round, with the warm breezes a perfect change to the colder climate back home, and in summer you have an 85 degree sun cooled by the fresh trade winds blowing in from the ocean. It is never too cold and never too hot.

You can spend all of your time on just the one island you like best, or take in the sights and sounds of all six. It is your choice, and each has its own attractions and natural beauty to suit every taste.

Oahu offers famous Waikiki Beach, and the state capitol of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor where you can visit the USS Arizona memorial. Most people choose this island when visiting Hawaii for their first time. It is not only the busiest island and the one and most visited by tourists, but is best for sightseeing if you are interested in history. You will likely have to spend some time here during your Hawaii vacation in any case, since most flights to and from Hawaii use Honolulu as a hub.

If you travel north you will come to Kauai, the most northerly and the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands. This is an island of great beauty with the magnificent golden sands of the Coconut Coast to the east and Waimea Canyon towards the west coast. Waimea Canyon is known as the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific', and the reason will be obvious when you see it. Close by is Kokee State Park that offers a number of trails you can hike to see the rainforest plants and the rare bird species that make their home here.

The island of Molokai lies to the south of Oahu. This island is home to a large number of Native Hawaiians who have remained closely connected to their culture and traditional way of life.

If you are looking for a more peaceful Hawaii vacation, Lanai Island would be ideal. Not only does it possess no traffic lights but it is the least densely populated of all the islands of Hawaii. It is a good choice for a quiet romantic vacation, and offers two golf courses to keep your fitness levels trim.

Maui lies in the middle of the winter migration route of the humpback whale, and many people come here in winter for whale watching. The beaches are said to be among the best in the world, and are a favorite with many people seeking a Hawaii beach vacation without all the razzmatazz of Honolulu.

The Big Island of Hawaii is, as you would expect, the biggest island in the group. In fact it is larger than all the others combined, and offers 11 of the 13 defined climatic zones of the world. The Big Island features mountains topped with snow, an active volcano and beautiful beaches. It is a must on any list of Hawaii vacation ideas. It is also good if you are looking for inexpensive real estate in Hawaii.

If you are unsure as to which island you want to spend most of your time or if this will be your first Hawaii vacation - then why not try an island cruise? You can book a cruise that starts at Honolulu and then spends about a day and a half on each island. What better way could there be to visit Hawaii for your first time and decide which island you like best?

If you prefer to sleep on land, you will find a wide range of vacation accommodations throughout Hawaii. They range from resort hotel rooms, vacation condos and private home rentals to inexpensive cabins.
