Obama's $10 Million Hawaii Vacation Home

How does the leader of the free world relax and get away from the mayhem of D.C.? Bush had his Texas ranch, Clinton preferred high style in Martha's Vineyard, but Obama prefers Hawaii.

For the past 2 years, the First Family has spent their Christmas holiday at a custom built 5000 square foot home on Kailua Beach in Hawaii. Originally listed for sale at over $11 million in 2006, the Kailua beach front home occupied by the World's most powerful man is now listed for $8.9 million, making it one of the more expensive pieces of Hawaii real estate.

Located on the windward side of Oahu, the white sands of Kailua have been voted one of America's Top beaches. And since it's just a few miles from the President's childhood home and Kaneohe Marine Corps base, it's a natural choice for the world's most powerful man to return to Kailua. The Obamas were in the Hawaii home until January 4th.

From inside the swanky Hawaiian vacation home, you can see beautiful Kailua beach just outside the living room.

But the home isn't all that large compared to most multi million dollar homes around the country, with only 5 bedrooms and no game room or basement (there are very few basements in Hawaii.) However, the home does feature a custom resort like lava rock pool and a small media room.

So why the mega high price? Location! Kailua beach is one of the most expensive places you can buy Hawaii real estate. Since many of the beaches on Oahu are actually rocky, the wide sandy beaches of Kailua with their gentle waves offer something almost idyllic for vacationers.

And in typical Hawaii style, the home features almost 2000 square feet of open lanai in addition to the interior space, which is covered outdoor space under which to enjoy Hawaii's year round mild climate. Oahu has an average summer high temperature below 90 degrees, and the winters are equally mild, with day time lows around 70, so covered lanai space is just as usable as indoor living space.

Since the house is available for rent at around $3000 a night, you don't have to be the President to stay there, but you do need pretty deep pockets. Many other homes are available to rent on Kailua beach, with prices starting at about $1000 a night.

Vacation Homes In Mexico From A To Z

From Acapulco, with its twenty miles of golden beaches and legendary after-dark sizzle and swing, cliff divers at La Quebrada and charming public square with quaint shops, family restaurants, and balloon man to the old fishing village of Zihuatanejo with its splendid shell collecting opportunities, biking, hiking, and horseback riding along the beach by the Pacific, and restaurants which prepare the day's fresh catch for a vacationers on a budget, Mexican tourism has everything from A to Z.

Mexican tourism is big, and getting bigger, and Mexico is being discovered by several generations of North Americans from the college students who flock to Cancun for spring break sunning and funning, to Baby Boomers with disposable income and a yen to see the world. And as the demand for them has grown, there are now more vacation homes in Mexico than ever before.

Options For Vacation Homes In Mexico

Many Baby Boomers, especially those in California and the Southwestern U.S., have used profits they made from taking advantage of the recently-ended real estate boom to invest in vacation homes in Mexico in anticipation of retiring there. They have their choice of luxury vacation homes in Mexico from trendy places like Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Ixtapa, or Cozumel, or they can decide on something a bit more downscale and secluded, like Platanitos, close in distance to Puerto Vallarta, but in atmosphere a world away.

Renting one of the Platanitos vacation homes in Mexico will give you access to the twelve-mile long crescent beach where, at the right time of year, you'll witness the magic of the migrating humpback whales and their calves. Dolphins and manta rays are frequent visitors to the Platanitos beach, and close by is the Custudio Ecological Preserve, where huge flocks of indigenous and migratory birds find shelter in the mangrove swamps.

Even those staying in vacation homes in Mexico outside Platanitos will come several miles to partake of the fare at the town's several small eating establishments, which make up for their lack of sophistication with their wonderful sarandeado mesquite-grilled shrimp and fish, or seafood broth loaded with, of course, freshly caught seafood.

The Downside Of Vacation Homes In Mexico

Platanitos is just one of the as yet not widely known spots where North Americans could purchase vacation homes in Mexico in anticipation of retirement. As long as they are willing to be patient about running water, electricity, and repair men of questionable reliability--and never take the word manana literally, or just keep reminding themselves that tomorrow never comes, the low cost of retirement in spectacular, unpolluted surroundings could make their decisions to purchase their vacation homes in Mexico the smartest ones they ever make!

Hawaii Vacation Rental Is An Idea To Consider

Hawaii vacation rental options are exhilarating and present you with an opportunity you may have never thought possible for you and your friends and loved ones in the stunning island surroundings of Hawaii. So many places exist, from Maui vacation rentals to take pleasure in ocean-front magnificence to Kauai condos for opulence and seclusion, including an assortment of lavish flats to humble villas, that everyone can find their preference.

There's no more following the crowd and fitting in with others' plans when you forget about hotels and regular vacation spots and opt for a Hawaiian rental!. No set mealtimes, no having to smarten up in the evening, no need to pay through the nose to get food delivered to your room (but if you fancy getting that pizza delivered, no problem!)

Even though you have the ability to fix all of your meals in your Hawaii vacation rental, doesn't mean you will want to. However, it is pleasant to be able to make a quick snack or have a simple meal in the comfort of your own space. You can avoid the hassles of a restaurant and save some money as well. Granted, in a rental, you won't have the convenience of a hotel staff to clean up after you. But, you will have more privacy. Additionally, some rentals offer maid service or similar amenities.

Instead of paying steep hotel prices, families can save money by renting a Hawaii vacation home or condo. These rentals can save money for groups as well as families. Arrangements work best with people who know they are compatible vacationing together for a few days or an extended stay. Also, there is no need to worry about the length of your stay. Rentals can be found for a stays that vary from a few days, to weeks, or for months at a time.

These rentals usually come fully appointed with modern furnishings and appliances, cooking and dining utensils, and often a washer and dryer. In addition, these rentals feature entertainment systems complete with DVDs and some with video game systems as well.

Hawaii vacation rentals run the extremes of price. They can be very inexpensive or so exorbitant in price for upscale lodging that most people cannot imagine the price. When you search, you can do so by looking at length of stay, available amenities, amount of people that the place can accommodate, or by price to find the best overall match for your needs. You can perform this search online or by more traditional means such as going through a travel agent.

Hawaii vacation rentals offer many options to travelers such as Maui vacation rentals and Kauai vacation condos. Your vacation will be more relaxed with a Hawaiian vacation rental as you'll have no schedules, no dinners to dress for, and no expensive room service. Rentals offer the chance to prepare some of your own meals. Rentals offer more privacy and can help you save money. You can stay for days or months. Most rentals are furnished and have all appliances including plus other amenities. Prices range from economical to luxury. You can do an internet search or use a travel agency to find rentals.

Hawaii Vacation Rental - Easier Than a Hotel

Good accommodations are one of the top considerations when going on vacation. For many of us, our immediate first idea is a chain hotel or motel with a familiar name. However, there are alternatives, even in tropical destinations like Hawaii. Perhaps a Hawaii vacation rental is just what you are looking for during your stay in paradise.

Whether you look at villas or houses, or Hawaii condo rentals, choosing a rental has many things to recommend it. With a Hawaii vacation rental, you have privacy and often quiet you would never have in a hotel or motel. You don't have to worry about staff coming in and out of your room and you may feel more relaxed and secure in a more home like setting.

Another perk is the freedom to make some of your meals instead of eating out, which can mean savings that can more than pay for that Hawaii vacation rental. You certainly don't have to chain yourself to the kitchen and do all the cooking, but it's more convenient as well as cheaper to fix a bowl of cereal and brew a cup of great Kona coffee in your bathrobe than it is to dress and go to the restaurant. You don't have to worry about what time the dining room closes either.

Many hotel rooms have small kitchens or kitchenettes, while a rental will almost always have a complete functioning kitchen with all necessary appliances which is far more resourceful. The luxury of a full size dining table or an outside patio can give a very "homey" feeling and may lead to a more relaxing vacation. On average a rental is more luxurious and spacious, while costing the same as a hotel room would.

Hawaii vacation rentals can be found for a just a few days or for much longer stays as well. A good travel agent can help you find these properties or you can do a search on the internet and find them easily. You may even pick a destination since if Kauai vacation rental pops up as a special offer at a great price, you may decide that this is the island for you!

The drawbacks that some people find to a Hawaii vacation rental is that you will need to do some things that a hotel usually does for you. On the other hand, a little cleaning, cooking, and making your own bed is not much of a problem when it comes with the comfort of being in a real home instead of one of dozens of commercial bedrooms. The rental can make the whole vacation much more peaceful and relaxing. If you think you'll miss room service, just remember that you can order a pizza in Hawaii just like you do at home.

Finding excellent lodgings is of major importance to travelers even in a tropical paradise like Hawaii. A Hawaii vacation rental provides a relaxed, homey accommodation. Vacation rentals have complete kitchens where you can prepare some of your meals and save money. A fully-equipped kitchen that allows you to eat on a private balcony or around a dining table will help your relax. Travel agents and online resources can help you find a Kauai vacation rental at a great price. In a rental you'll have to do a little housekeeping, but you'll find it to be a comfortable environment without intrusive hotel staff. Hawaii condo rentals are another option.
